FEATURED EVENT: ICON REGGAE TOUR 2006 featuring MR EASY & MEGA BANTON
(November 16-18, 2006) Dancehall Reggae singjay MR EASY and Dancehall deejay MEGA BANTON recently teamed up to participate in the ICON Reggae Tour. Both artists were previously signed to major recording contracts with US based Major Labels. MR EASY enjoyed a brief stay at Motown with his first album “Call Me Mr. Easy”. Mega Baton’s album “1,000,000 Megawatts” was released by Relativity Records. Both albums can still be purchased online thanks to online merchandisers like Amazon.com.
The two artists were tentatively set to be joined by Sister Nancy and Striker of Madd Squad sound system in a series of shows taking place in the Hawaiian Islands. Icon Music Entertainment based out of Atlanta (http://www.iconmusicent.com) set the tour up along with the local assistance of well established soundmen – Liloa of Pacific Sounds Outernational and Galiss of Y2K Sounds.
The first night of shows was on Thursday November 16th at the Fisherman’s Wharf in Honolulu, HI upstairs at REDDA FIRE in the ‘Living Room’. The second night moved further into the island at Boardriders. The last night of performances was at: Paradise Café close to the local University. While Hawaii is not known for its support of Dancehall and Sister Nancy’s in-ability to show did cause a few disgruntle party goers, the overall response to the two artists’ performances was warmly received.
Mr. Easy is smooth on stage and manages to delight all audiences and won over the particular crowds at the shows in Hawaii. Mega Banton is short of nothing on stage; he’s energy and fierce delivery also captivated the local audiences.
Hopefully, as time progresses, the Islands of Hawaii will be open to more dancehall artist performances. Big ups to Makani of Island 98.5FM, Ichard, DJ Irie-Sistern, DJ Loriel and DJ Roger for their support and radio interviews. Big respect to Jasmine May of Reggae Rhythms Television for the interview and specatcular view of Hawaii! Xtra big ups to local soundmen and serious Reggae promoters; everyone in Pacific Sounds Outernational and Y2K Sounds.
